Banning handguns wont fix anything

I walked into the drugstore the last week and saw all the newspapers had headlines that read something like ‘Paul Martin proposes to ban handguns’.  In disgust I told the clerk I knew someone in Lethbridge who was murdered by a group of young offenders using knives, and this obviously wouldn’t help him.  She agreed with me, and said that she had suffered a home invasion robbery by a group of young offenders, and they received a slap on the wrist.

For those of you who don’t realize, Canada’s handgun laws are so strict now that I can’t see any legal owners comitting the shootings.  You have to carry your gun to the shooting range from your house in a locked case, and need a permit to take it to the gunsmiths.  The guns that are comitting the crimes are coming in from the US over a border that is guarded by unarmed civil servants, and do not have permits.

Paul Martin’s proposal simply illustrates that the Liberals don’t understand the problem, and they have run out of ideas.
